Our nabi Muhammad (saw) prohibited blowing into our food or eating from a broken bowl.
Blowing :
There may have many reasons why our beloved Nabi (saw) prohibited blowing in to our food or drink only Allah and His Rasul know the real reasons, what we know some of them are :
When a person blow, the saliva of that person gets into the food unintentionally and this pollutes that food as well as that drink.
Blowing into food and drink involves disrespect for the food, so it is disliked to blow into it even if the person is eating alone.
Blowing in to food or drink may affect the remainder of the food as in this way it will affect other people who eat from it.
Breathing :
This may cause certain change in the food or drink due to the breathing, either because the breather’s mouth has a certain smell because of food for example, or because he has not used the miswak or rinsed his mouth for a long time, or because breathing brings out some vapours from the stomach or lung. In all these cases blowing is even worse than merely breathing.
Wisdom:
The wisdom behind the prohibition of breathing into the vessel is off putting to the one who is going to drink from it after him. Some diseases from the stomach, lungs or mouth may be expelled with the breath and stick to the vessel, or he may choke if he breathes into the vessel. Hence our beloved Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) forbade breathing into vessels; rather one should take three breaths, holding the vessel away from the mouth each time.
ALLAH swt and His Rasul (saw) know best.
Prohibition to use broken spot:
There are many reasons why our beloved Nabi Muhammad (saw) discouraged to use the broken spot only Allah swt and His Rasul (saw) know all the reasons, what we know some of them are:
The broken spot may be sharp and thus injure the person, unlike the even rim of a cup. In brief, it is forbidden to drink from the broken spot to avoid potential harm
if a person drinks from the broken side of a bowl/glass, water will leak from the broken part and fall on his body and clothes thereby inconveniencing and troubling him; the broken portion of a bowl/glass cannot be cleaned properly and therefore if someone drinks from it, he will drink dirt and filth, and also the broken tiny particles may harm or injure him.
Abu Sa‘eed Al-Khudri, may Allah be pleased with him, narrated that the Messenger of Allah, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam, forbade drinking from the broken spot on a qadah (drinking bowl). [Abu Daawood ]
